My darling husband, my dog and I went for an off road adventure (or should I say misadventure) on Tuesday. The plan was to go up in the woods to explore some of the little lakes around where we live. We were going to scope out the roads to see where we would be able to take our trailer and camp.
Our journey began on some terrible washboard gravel, but it only lasted for about 5 minutes so we continued on. We made it up the hill to our first turn off... Peachland Lake. It was really quite beautiful and serene. After exploring a little ways, we decided to turn back. About half way back, Pat thought the steering was a little off. The wheel kept pulling to the left. He hopped out to check it out. Roxy and I hopped out to check out the woods. We had only taken a few steps when we heard the hissing... no, not a snake, a flat tire. ARGH!!!! We drove out of there to the road before the tire was completely flat. Once at the road, we managed to change the tire (no easy feat, as the jack was too high, and so we had to back our flat tire onto a rock).

So, we continued on. We would not let one little flat wreck our day. We went up to a beautiful lake called McDonald Lake. We explored a little, and then added it to our list for where we plan to camp. I saw the biggest mushroom. It was 12 inches across.

Next up, more driving. We went in search of another lake, but could not find it, and the road was getting too rough, so we gave up on that and went on to the next spot. We found Pinnacle Lake. Here we had a nice picnic, threw sticks in the water for the dog and checked out the tadpoles. It was pretty fun.

A few more lakes and a lot more driving, and then I thought I heard something dragging. I imagined our running board was dragging so I asked Pat to pull over. I jumped out of the truck to see, and to my dismay.... a second flat. WHAT!!!! Now, with the spare already in use, and no cell service, we were left with no options, but to drive on it. We were still about 10 kilometers away from the nearest forestry store/cabin. Long story short, we found a nice old man in a cabin with a cell booster and were able to contact my dad (MY HERO) who filled up his air compressor and came and saved us.

| Hidden gem... oh so pretty in there. If we didn't get the second flat, I wouldn't have seen it! |

The moral of the story is GO HOME AFTER YOUR FIRST FLAT TIRE!!! Lesson learned!
Things have been better since. Our tires have been replaced and we are no worse off. Plus, we have a fun story to tell.
